Blog Tour: Shock Me by Ashley Harris

Blurb:

A promising gymnast, Donna Young is a shy, quiet nobody from the wrong side of town. The only exciting thing in life is her secret friendship with Ryan, her childhood crush. But after the accident—one that should have killed her—she discovers she has impossible powers! Why now, at sixteen, can she transform into something shocking and inhuman? Donna doesn’t know how to use her new abilities or who she can trust, but unveiling this mystery might lead to conclusions about Ryan that are deadly.

Rich kid, Ryan Applegate is the most popular guy in town. He has a face that should be on a poster in every girl’s bedroom and dates the hottest chick in school. But ever since the big explosion at the town’s power plant, Ryan has been keeping secrets of his own, that if revealed could force him to choose between his family and the girl he's forbidden to love.

As their electrifying puzzle unfolds, so unfolds a town where friends become enemies, and enemies become unrecognizable and intertwined. Tortured heroes just might be the bad guys, and Donna discovers that her and Ryan’s secrets are powerful enough to destroy everyone... including themselves.

Interview with Ashley:

Epp....so I got to have an awesome sit down with the wonderful Ashley Harris. Below are some insights into the workings of Ashley and without holding off anymore lets get to know Ashley a little better.....

Meagan - Where did you get your inspiration for writing Shock me?

Ashley - Shock Me was actually inspired by a dream I had as a teenage girl that I could never quite shake.

Meagan - How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
Ashley - I would say a lot of my own personal experiences and experiences of people I know are weaved into my writing.
Meagan - What’s in your TBR pile?
Ashley - Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Ivy Entwined by Simcox Laura, and Gate to Kandrith by Nicole Luiken.
Meagan - Playlists for books is becoming very popular…. do you have a playlist with your books? And what is your favorite type of music?
Ashley - I love all kinds of music, gospel is probably my favorite. I do use playlist for some of my books.  Old time Linkin Park songs are big on my playlist for SHOCK ME, along with the song  REST IN PIECES by SALIVA.
Meagan - Do you have a particular writing routine once you start a book?
Ashley - I always make an outline before starting a novel, or right after writing the novel's first chapter. Making outlines are pretty important to me.
Meagan - What’s the most difficult part in writing?
Ashley - Sometimes a writer is inspired to write a new story while still working on an older one. You've got to finish what you started or you'll have a bunch of half written novels lying around. It's something I always remind myself.
Meagan - What comes first for you? The story? Characters? Or setting?
Ashley - Usually the characters.
Meagan - If you weren’t a writer, what other path might you have followed?
Ashley - I would have probably become a nurse like my mom or a radiology tech; but then again the great thing about writing is you can come from all kinds of career paths and bring a new voice to the table.
Meagan - What are you working on right now?
Ashley - I am working on the final draft of a New Adult short romance novel, and trying to figure out how steamy I should take it.... ;-)
Meagan - So what kinds of things do you do for fun?
Ashley - I love to go on long walks. Seeing movies and going shopping with my sister and mom will always be one of my all time favorite things todo.
Meagan - If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Ashley - I'd love to go to England and see where they film BBC's Doctor Who.
Meagan - Do you have any words of inspirations for aspiring writing?

Ashley - Don't give up no matter how long it takes to get your work out there. Keep dreaming and speaking your goal until it's absolutely true. Don't be afraid to try an unusual way to become successful at your writing craft . You don't need to relive anyone else's exact success story, instead dare to make your own way.... :-)

Meagan's Review:

Okay so to start this review off.....I don't think I've ever read a book quite like this one. When I first started this book I wasn't expecting it to take the turn that it did. It started off in the "real world" and so I thought it would be something along those lines and then....bam....we enter the world of scientific paranormal  Well that's what I'm going to call it.  Let me tell you though.....don't let that take away from this book because it was awesome and the way it ended...OMG I need more. The only thing that threw me off a little sometimes was the point of view for the story. It changed a lot and I wasn't used to it being more than two different people. Now don't get me wrong it's not that I didn't like it, it was just off putting sometimes, but I think it truly gave the story more depth.

Okay so the story surrounds our main character Donna. Donna's life is crappy. I mean I feel terrible for her, she just can't seem to catch a break. Her two best friends at school are Spencer and Rebecca. She also has this other bff (who I think is really good for her) Brook. Donna also had a best friend as a kid and they are secret friends currently and that is Ryan. Ryan is a mystery and super readable at the same time. Yes I know how that sounds. He obviously has feelings for Donna. He really likes her (even though he has a girlfriend) and he stays away from her as much as possible to protect her. He is also something else...however that something else is something we are unsure of.

Anyways one day something bad happens and Donna's life changes forever. As change starts happening to Donna her friends fear her and everything around her begins to change. A lot of secrets and questionable things are now more in the open. For me it seemed that a lot more questions kept coming up than were being answered....but that's what the next book is for.

Ashley wrote this book amazenly. It pulls you in from the very beginning and holds on till the last word on the last page. And even then you need more. You want to know what is going to be in Donna's future. What might happen between her and Ryan. Could they find love there? What will happen when secrets come out? Please tell me something is going to happen to Lynn because I can't stand the cow. I want to start a girl fight everytime she's anywhere near Donna or making some comment or just being around. lol  This book had me feeling bad for Donna, happy, sad, cheering, crying and hopeful. So many emotions and such a great storyline and characters you can't help but get invested in the book. Go grab your copy of Ashley's amzing book and find out your favorite character.
