Review: Winning Love by Abby Niles

Blurb:

Mac “The Snake” Hannon has spent years throwing himself into cage fighting as a way to lash back at the natural disaster that destroyed his future. A call for help has Mac returning to the one place he swore never to return: Kansas—in the height of tornado season.

There he meets free-spirited Gayle Andrews. At first he wants nothing to do with the infuriatingly, persistent woman, but the crazy challenges she tosses his way are impossible to resist. As she thaws years of bitterness, bringing back the Mac he believed long gone, he starts to make peace with the past and see the future again. Until he learns she chases his worst nightmare, then he can’t get away fast enough.

Meteorologist and storm chaser, Gayle Andrews is no stranger to being left behind and now believes in living in the moment. She wants to do just that with the handsome extreme fighter with the achingly sad eyes. As she works to replace the sorrow with desire, she finds herself breaking her one rule: have fun, but don’t fall in love. When he suddenly pushes her away and she discovers the horrifying reason why, she issues one more challenge: face his fear and come on a chase with her.

Will squaring off with the past lead to a victory for heartache or love?

About the Author:

Ever since Abby Niles picked up her first Sweet Valley High book in sixth grade and fell in love with Elizabeth and Todd, she’s been hooked on romance. By the time she reached high school, she was devouring meatier romances with pirates, cowboys and knights. She never imagined that those years of reading would one day lead to her becoming a published author.

In her late twenties, after having twins and becoming a stay-at-home mom, she started doodling stories to keep her sanity. Next thing she knew, she was actually submitting to publishing houses. And was immediately rejected. That didn’t stop her though. She found some kickass critique partners, honed her craft, and continued submitting.

And eventually sold.

Today, she juggles work, being a single mom, and writing. It’s not always easy, but hey, who said life was easy?

Abby is the author of the contemporary MMA romance, Extreme Love, the first book in her Love to the Extreme series. Fighting Love is scheduled to release in December of 2013 and Winning Love is scheduled for 2014. She is also the author of the dark paranormal romance series The Awakening: Aidan and the The Awakening: Liam and The Awakening: Britton. Both series are with Entangled Publishing. She also has a geeky romantic comedy, Defying Convention, with Carina Press.

She is represented by Maureen Walters at Curtis Brown, LTD.

Meagan's Review:

I absolutely loved every moment of this book. I think the biggest reason why I fell so much in love with it is because of how real it felt. What Mac and Gayle went through and go through is something that could happen to anyone. There wasn't a lot of fluff or "fantasy" that makes you dream of a life like this. It just was. It's been a long time since I've read a book that I felt like, "Hey that could have been me, or someone I know." And that for me made this book ALL the better.

Our story is about Mac and his past demons. He left Kansas to outrun his demons and when an old friend calls him up for help, Mac makes a retrurn trip to a place he swore he would never go back to, Kansas, during Tornado season. A few years back Mac had a wife and a huge F5 went through their home town, trapping him and causing mass destruction. In the path of that storm was Mac's house and we find out that she didn't survive and there was another little shock that happened on that horrible day. So he left. He put all anger and everything into fighting and became great at it. Now he's back to help his friend train for a big upcoming fight.

Gayle is an interesting character. She doesn't take sh*t from anyone and pretty much speaks what's on her mind. She doesn't have a filter. Of course she finds Mac hawt and pretty much does a lot of things to get his interest and to have a friends with benefits relationship because she doesn't do relationships. Honestly she is probably the best thing to walk into Mac's life because outside of fighting the man doesn't live. And she really helps him start to do that.

However, the downfall to Gayle is.....she's a storm chaser. Sorta. She has a few demons in her closet as well and because of those she chose the profession she did. She follows/chases storms to help warn people and studies the weather. Well when Mac finds out about this, it becomes an issue. Will these two be able to move forward? Or will Mac or Gayle be too stubborn to realize what they truly want and move forward in some manner.

This book was an amazingly great read and I would highly recommend it to anyone that likes a nice romance story with fun and laughter and joking and seriousness and sadness and adventure. This book has it all. Abby Niles is an amazing author and this book didn't fall short in any manner.

Review: Love Bites: A Sugar City Novella by Ophelia London

Blurb:

Falling in love is like swimming with sharks…

Sharona Blaire is only in Australia for a business audit, but she’s determined to make the most of her one free night. So when she spills her drink on a handsome stranger and they end up flirting, she does something completely out of character—she kisses him. But the prospect of taking it further totally freaks her out…almost as much as discovering the next morning that the man she’s auditing is the sexy, tanned stranger she left with zero explanation.

An audit during his crew’s most important expedition yet is a complication marine biologist Jeff Cruz doesn't need—especially when the auditor is the gorgeous, fascinating woman from the night before. Out at sea with nowhere to run, he’s forced to admit Sharona draws him in like a shark to blood. But Jeff's one passion is his job, and nothing—not even love—will get its hooks in him

About the Author:

USA Today Bestselling author Ophelia London was born and raised among the redwood trees in beautiful northern California. Once she was fully educated, she decided to settle in Florida, but her car broke down in Texas and she's lived in Dallas ever since. A cupcake and treadmill aficionado (obviously those things are connected), she spends her time watching arthouse movies and impossibly trashy TV, while living vicariously through the characters in the books she writes. Ophelia is the author of LOVE BITES. DEFINITELY MAYBE IN LOVE, ABBY ROAD, the Perfect Kisses series including: FALLING FOR HER SOLDIER, MAKING WAVES, PLAYING AT LOVE, and SPEAKING OF LOVE. Visit her atwww.ophelialondon.com. But don't call when The Vampire Diaries is on.

Meagan's Review:

So I have a little mixed feelings about this book. Overall, I really enjoyed it. It was something different and interesting to read and of course with Shark Week (and being a huge shark week fan) it only added to the fun factor of this book. My biggest issue with this book is that everything between Sharona and Jeff was super quick for the feelings that they had and that led to their actions and by the end of the book I loved their interactions and everything that happened, but on a side note I just wasn't as convinced, because it was really really quick. I know that people can have instant chemistry and these two definitely  had that, but again I just can't point my finger on it, part of me just wasn't completely convinced. Outside of that I really did enjoy this book and their "relationship."

So Sharona has been having a terrible day. She keeps spilling things on strangers and nothing is working out in her favor. However, she decides to go down into the hotel bar and runs into a very attractive stranger. They sit at the bar and have an instant attraction to one another and while thinking and slightly acting on taking it further at the last minute Sharona decides she isn't read for a one night stand. The next day she has work to do anyway and ends up stranding the sexy stranger for the night.

On the flip side of this the sexy stranger happens to be Jeff, the guy that Sharona spilled her drink on the plane and ohhh he's the guy she has to do an audit on the next day for work. At first this is really awkward between the two of them, but by mid day and carrying on these two definitely have some chemistry and it shows. But Jeff has trouble trusting people because of his past. She becomes a little more involved in his work and more curious about what he's trying to do. And that tends to complicate things a little for Jeff.

However there are people who would like to steal what Jeff is working on and this becomes an issue. Trust issues come up and blame is thrown at the wrong people. Will Jeff and Sharona be able to figure things out or will their "interaction" be like the night before, over before it began.

But this book is definitely work reading. And it's a pretty quick read too, I read it in one sitting and it is still very enjoyable to read and see what happens in the waters of Australia.

Review: Keeping Mr. Right Now by Robin Bielman

Blurb:

A temporary agreement neither could keep…

Brainy, organized Sophie Birch is no beach bunny. In fact, she’s totally out of her element among the sun-bronzed crowd at a film festival in beautiful White Strand Cove. When a surf lesson introduces her to Zane Hollander, suddenly she's up close and personal with the world's sexiest surf star. But what can a great-looking, experienced athlete possibly see in a klutzy out-of-towner who’s never set foot in the ocean?

Zane Hollander's playboy reputation has never been a problem…until recently. Now his management team wants him on his best behavior to entice a meaningful new sponsor. Sophie Birch is the perfect girl to help reform his image. She's genuine and respected—and their relationship is purely fictional. But the more Sophie blooms under the beachy sun, the more Zane knows he'll just break her heart. Because nothing's more important to Zane than following the tide.

About the Author:

Robin Bielman lives in Southern California with her high school sweetheart husband, two sons, and crazy-cute mini Labradoodle, Harry. When not attached to her laptop, she can almost always be found with her nose in a book. She also likes to run, hike, and dip her toes in the ocean. Filled with wanderlust, she longs to visit many different places and fulfill her curiosity. She wouldn’t mind indulging her sweet tooth in every location either. She’s a lover of Post-it notes, cable television shows and coffee drinks. Writing is a dream come true, and she still pinches herself to be sure it’s real.

She is a USA Today Bestselling Author of contemporary and paranormal romance.

Meagan's Review:

I really loved this book. It was a nice weekend romantic read and kept me interested the entire time, you just can't help but fall in love with the characters. Zane is one of those guys that women dream about. Even though he's a professional surfer, he's never forgotten where he comes from and he never forgets his fans; especially the children. Every time a child came up to him my heart melted. He's just (for the most part) and all around good guy that any girl would love to bring home to her parents.

Okay so the story starts out with Sophie who is on a business trip/personal life changing trip. She is determined to start living her life and doing things for her and on that list is surfing. Zane is an amazing professional surfer who needs to help improve his playboy imagine and focus on getting a position with the company S.H.E. And while on vacation these two are the perfect match to help one another.

However, what these two don't expect to happen is develop feelings for one another. Especially, not only do they live completely different lifestyles, but also live thousands of miles away from each other. But that doesn't stop feelings from arising and watching the way these two progress through the book is very entertaining. Sophie begins to show a side of her that she has always wanted and loves the new her and Sophie is bringing out a side in Zane that he was missing.

I loved every moment of this book. Especially the ending. I had way to many awww moments and again Zane just made my heart melt. I would highly recommend this book as a nice quick weekend read to just having something sweet and romantic as well as watching characters find their ways in life and watching them grow.

Meagan's Reivew:

Ahh can I first tell you that Chris is nothing short of brilliant when it came to the conclusion of this series!!! You are pulled in from the first words on the page until the very end to find out what will happen in Lennon's life. And can I also tell you this book will have your emotions EVERYWHERE!!!! At first you're really excited about what is going on in Lennon's life and then you're kind of like...Ohhh....that'g going to bite you in the butt. And then more happiness and then saddness and OMG did that just happen. And then okay okay breath something good will happen and then things start to look better and then WHAM out of no where I'm sobbing my eyes out. And I kept trying to go back thinking I missed something, but nope that really just happened. And then a lot lot more sadness and spiraling out of control. Then my emotions went to disappointment and then took an odd turn, because on some level I understood and it wasn't that I agreed with it, but still I understood. And then there was a lot of OMG don't do that....I yelled at my nook a lot....and Lennon you stupid...blep blep blep how you could blep blep blep blep lol I felt like a sailor that day. Finally my emotions calmed down (but only when I got to the end of the book). Chris had me so far into this book emotionally that I felt like it was my life happening before my eyes.

Okay so if you haven't read the first two books I would be careful reading this rest of this review because I don't want to give anything away. So just be warned. But if you want to read my review of the first two books click here

So Lennon and Rain are pregnant and Lennon's got a HUGE secret about that. Lennon wants to marry Rain, but Rain just isn't there yet. Lennon is getting a little closer to his father, who seems to really be genuine and changed. Their careers are taking off and here soon Lennon is going on a tour with his band and.....ukk....Jinx's band. So let me just say I didn't really ever like Jinx with Lennon. In the first book I wasn't completely against Lennon and Jinx together. I just didn't like her with him and I thought they were terrible together. I love love love him with Rain. So after a huge tragedy strikes Lennon and Rain's lives they don't handle it all that well. And when Lennon has to take off for the tour, their relationship is really in question about what will happen and if these two will be able to make it through together,

So he goes on tour and Lennon finally starts falling into his father's footsteps and parties wayy too hard, however, he does have a standard in the fact that he won't cheat on rain. No matter how much tempting naked women strut their stuff in front of him. And uggg...one of those women is a horrid little red head who needs to back the eff off. Jinx has her own issues with her oh so wonderful boyfriend Zach. Who I would beat the hell out of because he is the biggest ass I've read about in awhile. But I get the friendship between Lennon and Jinx and yeah I'm okay with it, but she crosses that line one tooo many times for my comfort to tempt Lennon and I hate her for it.

Also Chris threw something into this book that happened in the last book that I COMPLETELY forgot about and OMG didn't see coming. Which I always love in a book :) But yeah poor Rain has to deal with a lot in this book. And when I say a lot....that's putting it mildly. This book really tests Lennon and Rain in ways most people wouldn't have to face in 10 lifetimes. Will they come out on top? Will they still be together? Or will Lennon keep falling down the rabbit hole into nothingness like his father? You'll just have to read to find out. But trust me it is well worth it. I cannot give enough praise to Chris for not only this book, but the others in this series because they are just an amazing tale of one man and the life he leads. They pull you in from the very beginning and make you fall in love with him and understand him and hate him and wish for something better for him. Your emotions just get sucked into the book and those are the best ones to read. So I highly highly recommend you pick up your copy!!!

EXCERPT:

Katy

I still stared at Daemon, completely aware that everyone else except him was watching me. Closely. But why wouldn’t he look at me? A razor-sharp panic clawed at my insides. No. Thiscouldn’t be happening. No way.My body was moving before I even knew what I was doing. From the corner of my eye, I saw Dee shake her head and one of the Luxen males step forward, but I was propelled by an inherent need to prove that my worst fears were not coming true. After all, he’d healed me, but then I thought of what Dee had said, of how Dee had behaved with me. What if Daemon was like her? Turned into something so foreign and cold? He would’ve healed me just to make sure he was okay. I still didn’t stop.
Please, I thought over and over again. Please. Please. Please. On shaky legs, I crossed the long room, and even thoughDaemon hadn’t seemed to even acknowledge my existence, I walked right up to him, my hands trembling as I placed them on his chest. “Daemon?” I whispered, voice thick. His head whipped around, and he was suddenly staring down at me. Our gazes collided once more, and for a second I saw something so raw, so painful in those beautiful eyes. And then his large hands wrapped around my upper arms. The contact seared through the shirt I wore, branding my skin, and I thought—I expected—that he would pull me against him, that he would embrace me, and even though nothing would be all right, it would be better. Daemon’s hands spasmed around my arms, and I sucked in an unsteady breath. His eyes flashed an intense green as he physically lifted me away from him, setting me back down a good foot back. I stared at him, something deep in my chest cracking. “Daemon?” He said nothing as he let go, one finger at a time, it seemed, and his hands slid off my arms. He stepped back, returning his attention to the man behind the desk. “So . . . awkward,” murmured the redhead, smirking. I was rooted to the spot in which I stood, the sting of rejection burning through my skin, shredding my insides like I was nothing more than papier-mâché. “I think someone was expecting more of a reunion,” the Luxen male behind the desk said, his voice ringing with amusement. “What do you think, Daemon?” One shoulder rose in a negligent shrug. “I don’t think anything.” My mouth opened, but there were no words. His voice, his tone, wasn’t like his sister’s, but like it had been when we first met. He used to speak to me with barely leashed annoyance, where a thin veil of tolerance dripped from every word. The rift in my chest deepened.
For the hundredth time since the Luxen arrived, SergeantDasher’s warning came back to me. What side would Daemon and his family stand on? A shudder worked its way down my spine. I wrapped my arms around myself, unable to truly process what had just happened. “And you?” the man asked. When no one answered, he tried again. “Katy?” I was forced to look at him, and I wanted to shrink back from his stare. “What?” I was beyond caring that my voice broke on that one word. The man smiled as he walked around the desk. My gaze flickered over to Daemon as he shifted, drawing the attention of the beautiful redhead. “Were you expecting a more personal greeting?” he asked. “Perhaps something more intimate?” I had no idea how to answer. I felt like I’d fallen into the rabbit hole, and warnings were firing off left and right. Something primal inside me recognized that I was surrounded by predators.

Review: Midnight Dawn (Mortal Machine #2) by Jocelyn Adams

Blurb:

Her soul remembers his touch, even if she doesn’t.

With only three days until the wraith king turns the earth into an all-you-can-eat buffet, Addison Beckett is forced to enlist brooding sentinel Asher Green’s help to unlock the Mortal Machine. According to the founder, all she has to do is find the sanctuary—the same sanctuary she can’t remember because Asher erased her memories.Trying to save humanity while navigating Asher’s lies is a royal pain. But the more time she and Asher spend together, the harder her soul tries to remind her what else he’s made her forget—that he loves her, wants her, needs her. When she’s trapped by the wraith king and forced to pick who will stand by her in the coming battle, Addison is faced with an impossible choice: the sentinel she loves who refuses to love her back, or a powerful stranger who insists they’re meant to be together. Her decision will decide the fate of humanity, and once decided, can’t be undone.

About the Author:

Jocelyn is an office grunt by day and creator of romance and adventure by night. Born a farmer’s
daughter with a vivid imagination, she spent her childhood dreaming up stories that remained untold until 2010.

When she isn’t slinging words, you can find her shooting her bow or enjoying the serenity of family life in her little house in the woods.

Meagan's Review:

First off if you have NOT read Darkside Sun then stop what you are doing and pick up that book first because OMG does Jocelyn pack a mean punch in a book. Here is the link to goodreads for Darkside Sun

Now onto my review of Midnight Dawn. Okay so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book after reading the 1st book and this book didn't disappoint. This story picks up where the last one left off and it is amazing because the storyline that Jocelyn created is one you can't help but get lost in. It's new and interesting and just sucks you in from the very beginning. Our main characters are Asher and Addison and the war that is about the happen (again) with the Wraith King. So much information is given to you in this book that you keep guessing at what the ending is going to be and it takes almost the entire book to figure out what is going to happen and then you have the O.M.G factor. So Asher and Addison are our main characters and these two have a lot of......background together, it's just Addison can't remember it. I don't hate Asher's character in this book as much as I did in the first, but he still annoys me and I hate that he made Addison forget things in order to "protect" her. I love the way Addison's character has evolved in this book compared to the first one and how she is learning to come into her own. Of course the rest of the society she is apart of are still a little weary and scared of her because she is different and change is always hard. But she is slowly showing them a way to help rid the world and humans of wraiths.

Addison is also looking for her counter part/soul mate. When you find that one person who makes you stronger you pretty much mate for life. Everyone in the machine should have one. Remy ends up helping Addison a lot because no one wants to really help her including Asher. And even though Asher is mean again in this book to Addison her soul can't help but long for him. When the wraith King makes and appearance everything begins to change. They only have so long before hell takes over earth and the Machine crumbles. Asher has to work with Addison and a new character comes in, saying that he is destined to be with her, she is his counter part. He is this new what Addison has been looking and waiting for? Or can her heart and soul truly remember what really happened and who her heart already belongs to, even though she can't remember. Will Addison find a way to stop the wraith King?

All of these questions get answered in this book, however, a lot more form and the end of this book has me in a very tearful emotional state because it didn't end like I thought it might. I can't wait for the next book to see what will happen in Addison's world. But this book is definitely worth reading.
