Excerpt:

A suffocating heat pressed all points of my soul. Even though I hadn't breathed in a hundred years, I felt the need to inhale, yet I couldn't. A fire burned in my chest.

I attempted to open my eyes, to move one finger, a toe maybe, but the pressure immobilized my body. The burning sensation tore through me over and over until I had just about given up the fight.

But, just as quickly as the pressure came, it lifted, bringing a seemingly endless barrage of images. I was experiencing someone else's memories, as if I took a back seat in her mind and watched her life flashed before our eyes. I caught her image in a mirror, a small golden-haired girl.

Ally?

I tried to slow the images or possibly make sense of them but, just as I grabbed a hold on one of them, it slipped through my fingers and moved onto the next. I followed this girl through all the moments of her life as her memories flashed before my eyes.

Darker emotions overlapping the girl's happy memories. I saw a young red-haired girl in an old-fashioned dress; her demure eyes looked back at me. Jealousy flared through me. My heart squeezed, watching this girl who was not part of Ally's memories. A rush of energy pumped through my body; the power touched every fiber of my soul. Then the vision dissolved and I was forced back to experiencing Ally.

Was I dreaming?

Souls didn't dream. I told myself firmly.

The visions started to slow and I was able to focus on one.

I had to tell them, even though Dad said I couldn't. But in a week I wouldn't be the same girl. Or would I? I still wasn't clear on everything. Becoming a Guard: it was my life's mission, he had said. A life that was no longer my own. Would it be easier to let this life slip away? I would regret each day if I didn't. Maybe I would start with Seth. Sweet Seth. He'd be crushed, but someone would take my place. Dad had said something about people -humans- was I not human? Humans were drawn to those like me. Maybe Seth only liked me because I was different, unexplainably different.

I ripped the paper off the coffee sleve. It was now or never.

{Chapter One}

"I do. I do." Wedding planner Kate Ashby quietly repeated her calming mantra. Paralyzed in her window seat, she stared at the illuminated fasten seatbelt sign while her hands gripped the metal buckle strap.

Please turn off. Please turn off. They had to be close to cruising altitude. Soon, she'd be able to request a strong drink to knock her out for the duration of this bumpy flight.

She sat still, trying to ignore the terror pulsating through her. Why hadn't she bought sleeping pills before boarding a twelve-hour flight from New York City to Hawaii? Now, that would have been the smart thing to do.

Glancing out the tiny passenger window, she clutched her gold "K" necklace. It was completely irrational to be terrified and she realized the odds of her and her fellow passengers landing safely in Honolulu were more than in her favor. Still, this was her first time flying such a long duration. Departing Manhattan this evening in turbulent thunderstorms had shot her nerves. She was grateful that her boss had sprung for a first class ticket for the long flight.

A loud rattle caused her to grab hold to her armrests. "What was that?" She turned to the stranger sitting next to her. He had short blondish brown hair and was wearing a blue blazer. His face had a nice tan. She had failed to realize that her row mate was incredibly handsome. Usually the person sitting next to her was a grandparent or couldn't speak English. Perhaps he could help her ease her nerves?

 "Um ... I think it's the drink cart. Would you like something?" He folded his Wall Street Journal.

Sexy and smart.

"I'll take a tequila and tonic," he said to the flight attendant.

And likes his drinks strong. This could be fun.

Excerpt:

~Nari~

I lay mesmerized from the position on my back, staring up at the cloudless sky. It was as blue as a robin’s egg—if not more blue. The sun shone extremely bright, but the rays did not scorch my skin. The air was comfortable. Very comfortable. It was the perfect temperature. Warm, without being too warm, and no humidity.
I did not move.
I was afraid to move in case this was all just a dream and any slight stir would make it vanish, throwing me back into tormented reality. It must be a dream, right? Clearly, I had busted my head against the tree trunk and knocked myself out...And I was only imagining this while Zaylie, I was sure, was worried and trying to wake me up.
Right?
I could feel the grass beneath me. Soft, lush, exquisite. As if I lay against the perfect bed made just for me. I was Goldilocks, and it was just right.
A colorful bird soared above me. But as it descended closer, obscuring my view of the sky, I realized it was not actually a bird at all. It was the strangest butterfly I had ever seen. Its wings were a rainbow of colors - and it was huge. Bird-like huge.
But I didn’t feel frightened or grossed out like I usually did by insects. This was different. It felt different here. The butterfly flapped its wings so gently and effortlessly. I numbly reached up while it landed weightlessly on my fingers.
The moment it touched me and started cleaning its antennae, even though I could barely feel it on me, I got the striking feeling that this was real. Very real. I quickly sat up, causing the vivid butterfly to take flight again, and gazed around the beauteous expanse encircling me.

Excerpt:

Frankie
            Sugar. I needed more of it if I was going to make it through this day. The chocolate croissant and caramel latte I had this morning wasn’t near enough to combat the massive lines, the noise, and disgruntled people that filled the DMV. Whatever in hell made me think that working at the Department of Motor Vehicles, here in Alaska, was a good idea?
            Maybe it was the good pay. Maybe it was because I got weekends off.
            Or maybe it was because I had a moment of temporary insanity that unfortunately coincided with me saying, “I accept,” when I got offered this job.
            Besides the fact that the lines were permanently out the door, the computer systems were temperamental at best, and my boss was a complete broom rider, my stash of chocolate and Sour Patch Kids was empty.
            That meant someone was going to die today.
            I glanced back up at the ninety-year-old woman whose head barely cleared the insanely high counters we stood behind and tried to hold on to my patience. “Mrs. Eldridge,” I said extremely loudly. “Like I told you last week, you have to go and get new glasses before I can renew your driver’s license.”
            “I have new glasses,” she insisted.
            Lord, save me now.
            “You got those ten years ago. You need some from this year.” Or decade I finished silently.
            She shuffled out of the line like a turtle and I took her slowness as a chance to really search beneath my station and chair for a long-lost piece of sugar. Anything. Even a stray jellybean would likely find its way into my blood stream at this point. Of course there was nothing. I briefly considered hiding beneath my desk until five o’clock. My car. I had an emergency stash in my car. I glanced at my watch. I had another hour until I was able to take a fifteen-minute break.
            A pair of black pumps appeared before me and I inwardly groaned. Just what I needed—a run-in with the witch. But instead of being greeted by her condescending, screechy tone, an icy-cold red can appeared before me.
            Hallelujah, praise the Lord, it was caffeine and sugar!
            I snatched the Coke out of her hand and popped the top, taking a large, satisfying chug. The bubbles crowded down my throat, slightly burning, and I took another swallow.
            “I love you,” I murmured to Lela, the girl who worked right beside me.
            She laughed. “I know that look when I see it.” Then she straightened and whispered. “Witch alert.”
            I shot up, my head bumping into the counter on the way. I wanted to shout out in pain, but I clamped my mouth shut, not wanting to draw the attention of my boss, Satan’s assistant.
            I turned back to my line, my eyes colliding with a broad chest. I looked up, and the can slid out of my hand, hitting the floor with a thud while fizzy liquid poured over my favorite boots.
            I didn’t even notice.
            “What the hell are you doing here?” I growled as I looked around for something sharp I could stab him with.
            A thick brow arched. “So is this where you spend your days? As if the DMV isn’t a horrible enough place to visit without the poor people of Alaska having to tolerate you.”
            There wasn’t enough sugar on this planet that would save him. I reached out and picked up the black phone. If I couldn’t bludgeon him to death here at my place of employment, then I could at least call the cops. I began dialing, but he reached over and cut the connection.
            I slammed the phone down on his hand, which was still pressed on the hang-up button. Breath hissed between his teeth and his green eyes shot to mine. “Careful, George, you’re pissing off the wrong man.”
            “My name isn’t George.”

            He shrugged, pulling his hand away from the phone. “When you have a man’s name, does it really matter?”

Blurb:

Preschool teacher Laura Nichols is celebrating her birthday and sister's bachelorette party in Vegas. Being in Sin City is thrilling and she intends on tapping in to her wild side. Laura can't resist the added excitement that comes with saying yes when a husky man off the street proposes...

FBI agent David Abruzzo has been working undercover as a thug to bring down the Zacolli crime family, but his cover depends on convincing the mob he came to Vegas for a quickie wedding. If they catch on to his plan, his cover's blown, and he's as good as dead.

Over the course of 48 hours, David and Laura use roller coasters, glowing condoms, and exotic male dancers to stay alive and bring the crime family down. But it will take more than Lady Luck, one night of passion, and a little Vegas magic to turn their fake marriage into something real.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book or not when I first started it. I mean really what sane person (that Laura seems to play) goes and gets randomly married to someone she's never even met. Really? And then I was like OMG she is going to married some dude she doesn't know....he could be a serial killer or something.
Ohh and if I were Laura I would smack the crap out of her little self absorbed sister. Uggg....I couldn't stand her character. Every time she opened her mouth I cringed and pretty much hated her.
Now with that said I did truly enjoy this book. I couldn't help get lost in the characters and hope that through this "chance" encounter of not knowing each other and learning that David was in fact a good guy (I mean he is FBI), I wanted them to somehow be together. I laughed at soooooooo many parts in this book that it was so hard to keep track of them all. The way that Laura is described in this book is pretty much like type A personality and everything has its place and she doesn't really EVER go outside of the lines. However, when Laura gets married to David to help him with his undercover job, this whole and I mean WHOLE other side of her comes out.
So Laura is in Las Vegas to celebrate her twenty-sixth birthday and her younger sister's bachelorette party. Although Rachel is there to only celebrate her own life and no one remembered that it was Laura's birthday. Rachel pretty much just walks all over her sister. Laura had a nice room next to her sisters and Rachel made her change to a crappier one so that Rachel's maid of honor could be closer. Rachel makes her sister leave the group to walk back three blocks to the hotel to get a stupid glue gun because a nail broke, Laura gets side tracked by a man who asks for her help.
David doesn't just want to barrow Laura off of the street, the way he says it makes it sound like he needs a witness to his marriage. But ohhh no was I wayyy off, he needs Laura to actually marry him. So the next day she wakes up to David watching her in bed and he finally explains the situation they are in. That he's been undercover trying to take down a mob boss and he has to play like he is in Vegas to get married. So after some persuasion Laura agrees and everything changes at this point.
David has never really been one to have a "relationship" but he finds himself almost  wishing for one and that his life was somehow different to where he could be with Laura. So as the book progresses David and Laura keep showing up in places they shouldn't and she constantly pulls things out of no where that make me laugh. I think the funniest scene had to do with condoms (that glow in the dark) and tables being the right height.
The other thing I...I'm not sure how to put this into words. But okay Laura was a size 12. That's really not that big. I mean granted it's not a stupid 00, but at least girl has some curves; ya know some guys like a little something to grab onto. But this book made me laugh and angry at the same time (at points) because people made Laura feel ginormous. Everyone, but David.....David loved her curves in one scene he talks about her coming out of the bathroom after a shower:
She smiled apologetically and padded past him toward her suitcase, which sat atop the dresser, "I forgot clean clothes," she said, but all he heard was I'm completely naked underneath this towel.
And then later in the book someone says to David, "Got a thing for chunky girls, huh? Like a little extra meat on the bone?" He made no conscious decision to hit Tommy, but there was his fist, shooting out and popping the smirking young man right on the jaw.
I loved David in this scene!!!!
So obviously as the book progresses; Rachel falls out of her chair when Laura tells her she got married (to a handsome man no less). But as the "case" continues David and Laura find themselves in quite a few difficult scenes and the question becomes what will happen when Laura leaves Vegas and what will happen to David? Will he close the case? Will he be caught for a fed and be killed? Will Laura live through this ordeal? Will she be the same? Can they even have a relationship....like a real one? This book kept me till the end when everything came together. Ahhhh I loved it!!!!
When you're acting the role of a lifetime, how can you know if love is real or all just a part of the show?
Pretending she's happy, pretending her long-distance crushes add up to something real, pretending she's not haunted by the dark secret that shattered her world six years ago. Cast in her first Broadway show, she desperately needs to keep her façade intact, but that's before she comes face to face with her devastating new boss...
Hot-shot director Davis Milo knows the first rule of directing: never fall for your leading lady. Captivated by Jill's raw talent, he fights his feelings, but watching Jill on-stage with another man is more than his jealous streak can take. Keeping things professional isn't an option. He wants all of her.
Soon the ingénue and her director are staying late in the empty theatre, their private rehearsals spiraling into new, forbidden territory. Caught up between fiction and reality, Jill struggles to find the truth in all their staged kisses. But how can she be sure that what she feels is real, and not a part of the play? And when two people spend their lives pretending, what happens after the final curtain falls?
Excerpt:
He glances down at the black pumps. "Nice shoes."
As I follow his eyes, I realize my hand is on his shirt, my fingers fisted around the cloth, clutching it. I should let go. But I don't. Because I can't help but notice he has that clean and freshly showered smell that makes any woman want to learn in and lick a guy's neck.
Close her eyes. Inhale, and trail a tongue all the way to his earlobe, enjoying the sound of a low groan.
"Nice shirt," I say softly, running my index finger across one smooth button. Then I look up to find him staring down at me. His dark blue eyes aren't cold anymore. They're not keeping me at bay. Instead, they're heated, searching mine.
It's hypnotic the way he looks at me. Completely hypnotic, as the room goes quiet, the air between us charged.
I press my teeth against my lips, and I think, but I'm not entirely sure, because thought has vanished, that I nod briefly, almost as if I'm giving him permission. Then he bends towards me, and my breath catches. Before I even process rationally what's happening, his lips are on mine, and my pulse is racing. It's a barely there kiss, just him brushing his soft lips against mine, but I want more. So I pull him closer and deepen the kiss. He groans, and then suddenly his hands are in my hair, and he's twining his fingers through my long, blond strands, and tugging me close. I thought I was leading this kiss, but I'm not anymore, because he's claiming me, tracing his tongue across my top lip, then nipping at the bottom lip, then kissing me so deeply and with so much heat that I shudder. That only makes him kiss me harder, and everything else falls away because this is a kiss I can feel in every single cell in my body. Deep, and fevered and possessive.
It makes me feel things I'm not supposed to want.
My heart pounds wildly as he presses closer, so dangerously near to me that I want him to slam me against him. Let him touch me all over. His lips own me, his hands want to know me, and I swear I might combust from this kind of electric contact.
He breaks the kiss and I'm not honestly sure where I am anymore. Or who I am. I look at him, at Davis, but everything is so hazy right now, that I don't know what to say. I don't think he does either, because he doesn't speak for a moment. He shakes his head, and swallows, collecting himself. As if he doesn't know how that happened either.
"I'm sorry," he says, then steps back, pushing his hand roughly through his hair. He looks away from me, staring at some distant point on the wall. "That was a mistake," he says quietly.
Blog Tour: Famously Engaged by Robyn Thomas
Okay so next stop on my blog is the Famously Engaged blog tour by Robyn Thomas. I must say for being a paranormal fanatic......I've gotten pretty far from them the last month or so. But don't get me wrong, I've rather overly enjoyed all the recent books I've read and reviewed and have gotten to add some awesome authors to my favorites list...and Robyn is one of those authors. Especially, because all of the books the authors are writing are the way I wish a lot of authors did. One chapter or so from the girls perspective and then one from the guys perspective. I LOVE IT!!! And this book is no different. In this blog there are a few different things going on. We have information about Robyn and how to stalk her on the internet. A little blurb about the book. An excerpt from this awesome book and of course a giveaway. Ohh and my review.
A chef and a rock star. They couldn't be from more different worlds…
Rock star royalty’s favorite son, Jake Olsen, couldn’t help but interfere after listening to his future brother-in-law talk non-stop about his ex-wife, Beth Carlisle. Jake decides that the only way to get the groom’s mind off his ex-wife is to give her a fake fiancé.
Before Jake can convince Beth of his plan, he's forced to move in with her to avoid the paparazzi. Their instant attraction makes for a sizzling "first date", but soon Jake’s fame gets in the way and Beth wants out. Too bad Jake's figured out just why her ex is so obsessed with her, and he's afraid he's not going to be able to give her up either.
Now it's up to Jake to convince this chef together they make the perfect recipe.
Excerpt:
“Tell me, Jake, how famous do you have to be before you stop caring about anyone except yourself? I didn’t ask for you to come here on one of the worst days of my life. I haven’t trapped you in a public engagement or accused you of adultery or insulted your clothing choices or checked you out and then passed because you weren’t up to my usual standard.”
In the space of a heartbeat he braced his hands atop the counter on either side of her hips, his jaw tight as he leaned his head down to her eye level. “That’s not what happened.”
“Sure it is.” She swallowed, unsure if she wanted to quantify her current needs. “All I want is for someone vaguely human to hold my freaking hand for five minutes while I fall asleep, and you won’t do it,”
His mouth met hers almost before she’d finished speaking. It was a kiss unlike any she’d ever had, so achingly gentle that she felt her lips trembling beneath his. She held her breath and locked her knees. Jake’s fingertips played over her temples before drifting through her hair in a barely there cares, the back of his hands circling her ears. She gasped at the spear of heat that arrowed through her when his thumbs and forefingers closed over her lobes and tugged in a gentle rhythm.
“Ssh,” he said against her lips. “Relax for me.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So I really enjoyed this book, however, I found some of the relationships very "odd" in their workings. The story starts out with Skyla talking to Jake, who is her boss and also a rock star singer, and ohhh he's her half-brother and she doesn't know yet. Skyla is talking about her wedding and sent a picture of her maid of honor, Beth, to Jake. Beth is friends with Skyla and also Brad's (Skyla's soon-to-be-husband) ex-wife. Awkward much? Ohh and if that wasn't bad enough Brad and Beth talk like every day, several times a day and while Beth's mother has been sick has been staying over there to help take care of her. My reaction is a lot like Jake's, why in the world are the ex's spending time together and still "best friends" when they are divorced. Not only that Beth is heavily involved in the wedding, she's the wedding planner and the maid of honor. Seriously AWKWARD. So with that said Jake decides to take it upon himself to investigate the situation to determine is Brad is still hung up on his ex and stop the wedding if need be because his little half-sister deserves the best.

When Brad mentions to Skyla that he thinks one of them should move in with Beth, to better help take care of her mother, Jake jumps all over the situation. Not only will he be spending time with a gorgeous woman, but keeping Brad away from said woman. I love the first meeting of Jake and Beth; it's priceless.

As Beth answers the phone, "You're not moving in," she told the caller. "And you can't come over for dinner either, because I've just set it alight. If you want to read me the riot act about nutrition and balance, then you'd better make it snappy. Someones at the door and my kitchen smells like molten saucepan and burned butter."

Silence greeted her confession and she paused with her and on the doorknob. "It's you, isn't it? You're at my front door and I've just told you all that for nothing."

Without waiting for a response, she swung open the heavy oak door and gaped at a handsome stranger with a mobile phone pressed to his ear. Six feet of gorgeous masculinity graced her doorstep, broad shoulders filling out an overcoat that looked tailor-made.

As he smiles, "Ah, the face of indecision. Which part are you reconsidering? Dinner? Or moving in?"

From here they argue/talk about how he has come to stay with her instead of Brad and she adamantly tells him no. Eventually, he works his way into the house, but only after 2 reporters see him and take a picture of him and Beth and go with the story that they are engaged, because rumor has it Jake has a ring with him that he recently picked up from a jewelry store. The ring is actually for Skyla, it's a family heirloom, but the public doesn't know about Skyla and Jake wants to keep it that way. Back to Beth and Jake, instead of correcting the story, what do we do? We go with it. Yes this is Beth and we are engaged. YEY!!! So now Beth is engaged to a famous rock star that she just met.

From here the two get to know each other a little better, since they have to play the part of loving each other with plans of getting married. It's during this time that Beth truly gets to see who the real Jake is and Jake, poor Jake, man didn't have a chance. He fell for Beth as soon as he saw a photo of her and when talking to her he was gone. She's got spunk and attitude and doesn't put up with crap, especially his crap. It's super sweet really. But Jake also tells Beth his real intentions of his trip; he doesn't trust Brad and Beth's relationship and has come to make sure nothing happens for Skyla's sake.

Interestingly enough on the first night of his staying Beth uses Jake as her pillow to fall asleep on because she needs a shoulder to lean on. And then my favorite type of scene happens. As they are talking and it gets a little heated Jake kisses her. And the description is one of those life altering so in love I can't see or think straight, butterflies in my stomach and time stops kind of moment. (It's part of the excerpt from above). It was a kiss unlike any she'd ever had, so achingly gentle that she felt her lips trembling beneath his. She held her breath and locked her knees. Jake's fingertips played over her temples before drifting through her hair in a barley there caress, the backs of his and circling her ears. She gasped at the spear of heat that arrowed through her when his thumbs and forefingers closed over her lobes and tugged in a gentle rhythm. As Jake keeps trying to do the right thing, Beth has the exact opposite in mind. She wants to get lost in Jake and forget the world around her and he does exactly that for her. And when these two get down and dirty its like down and dirty and steamy and hawt and sexy and O.M.G. lol

Ohhh and side note keep an eye out for supersoft chickens. Those are the best lines of the story.

As the story continues it's clear to see how much Jake is getting under Beth's skin and how much she is affecting him. They are beginning to care about each other, but the reality of the situation is that it would never work. Jake's first marriage/love is his band and doesn't really do the whole dating thing, even though he's known as a ladies man. Eventually, the rest of the band shows up at Beth's door and I love Liam. He's that funny little brother that everyone wishes they had. But between the band, the chef, and Christophe and all the reporters on her lawn its a lot for Beth to take it. It's the things like this that show Beth what life with Jake would really be like and make her question if she can ever do something like this day in and day out. There has been so much chaos that surrounds Beth since Jake showed up on her doorstep, can anyone really handle that?

Both Jake and Beth need to decide what they want. Can Jake even think about a real relationship and give Beth what she truly deserves? Can Beth deal with all the media and cameras in your face? Will the band (except Liam) accept Beth and not think she is in it for the money? What will Brad do? What about poor Skyla? Will she ever know she has a big older half-brother? What about the wedding? Does Brad still have a thing for Beth? Can Jake walk away from Beth? That's my biggest question that I want to know. I'm hoping that maybe Robyn will carry on this story, even from another's perspective? Maybe? I really fell in love with the characters and I'm not ready to end my time with them, I want more. Other than that it was a great read and I'm sure you'll enjoy it too, I mean who wouldn't want to read about hawt, sexy rock stars and them possibly falling in love with a not famous person. It's almost like it could happen for someone like me...or you. Thank you Robyn for the awesome read!!!!

Blog Tour: Hostage to Love by Maya Blake

First I would like to give a HUGE thanks to Maya Blake for not only writing this amazing book, but to Kym Roberts and Entangled Publishing for the e-arc and for having me be apart of this blog tour!! There are lots of tid bits in this blog post. Information about Maya herself, as well as ways to stalk her over the Internet. A little blurb about Hostage to Love, a guest post from Belle, my review and a giveaway!!! Sooo many things...so make sure you keep reading!!

About the Author:

Maya Blake's dreams of becoming a romance author began when she picked up her first romance novel at age thirteen. She eventually realized this dream in 2007 when her first romantic suspense was published. Maya lives in Kent, Southeastern England, with her husband and two kids and an endless supply of romance novels.

How to Stalk Maya:

Blurb:

*On an idyllic Greek island, danger surfaces...and passion re-ignites.*

During a charity mission to a war-torn African country, Belle Jones is kidnapped by the vicious rebel leader determined to make her his. Belle’s estranged husband, Greek billionaire Nick Andreakos, stages a daring rescue, saving her from the horror.

To hide her from the obsessed kidnapper—-and to repair their broken relationship—-Nick whisks Belle away to his private island paradise. But she still won’t put up with his controlling ways...even if she’s still defenseless against their scorching-hot chemistry. With the brutal killer hot on their heels, Nick knows he must earn Belle’s trust again—-and *fast*. Even if it means risking everything. And losing his heart forever.

Guest Post: An Interview with Belle Winkworth Jones, heroine of Hostage To Love :

From reading the blurb of your story, it looks like your plans to volunteer as a charity worker in Nawaka, Africa, turned into a little bit more of an adventure than you anticipated.

Belle: Yes, it did, much to my surprise. I attracted the unwanted attentions of a rebel leader. Go me! Seriously though, it was quite a scary time.

I bet it was. Was there anything in particular that attracted you to this spine-chiller?

Belle: I think his primary reason for kidnapping me was for ransom. My estranged husband, Nick Andreakos is a Greek shipping billionaire, so I guess I was a juicy prospect for a rebel leader looking to fund his army.

Estranged, you say? How come?

Belle: *gives a sad laugh* Where do I start? Nick has a few control issues that made our marriage very, umm, trying. When it seemed like there was no ready solution to our problems, I walked out.

But now you’re back here, on Althea, yours and Nick’s private island, where I believe you spent your honeymoon? Have things changed?

Belle: Nick rescued me from Nawaka and Charles Mwana but personally, we’re trying to work things out, find the right compromise that works for both of us. I can’t return to England because the paparazzi will be all over me. It’s private here on Althea, and also saver.

You’re working through your issues. That’s great. But Mwana’s still out there. Do you think he stands in the way of your happiness?

Belle: He’s still a threat, certainly. And he’s certainly not to be underestimated. But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that Nick is also not to be underestimated. He’s determined, he’s strong, and come hell or high water, he always gets what he wants.

Is that how Nick got you to marry him in the first place?

Belle: He certainly knows how to turn on the charm, plus he’s drop dead gorgeous, and he’s not bad in the sack either.

Whew! *fans self* I believe you. So what happens now?

Belle: Nick and I intend to track down this madman and put him away for good. Then we will work on our marriage. I believe what we have is worth saving, and I don’t intend to give up until I have what I want, which is a loving husband who isn’t afraid to let me in and who meets me on equal terms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now onto my review. This book has a few HAWT factors that happen right off the bat.
Hawt Factor #1 - Nick (and Alex his cousin) served in the United States Marine Corps. So I will say that I am slightly partial to the Marines....especially since my father served as a Marine. They not only top the hot factor of the military for me, I just...I'm not sure how to describe it, but I've always leaned a little more toward them, even though I do have family in pretty much every branch of the military. And of course their core value that all Marines live by; Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful). This bond goes beyond teamwork -it is a brotherhood that can always be counted on. This motto guides Marines to remain faithful to the mission at hand, to each other, to the Corps and to country, no matter what. The transformation in becoming a Marine is one that cannot be undone, once made a Marine will forever live by the ethics and values of the Corps. Along with this the other core values that Marines live by is; honor, courage and commitment. This decides how every Marine thinks, acts and fights. (I know that was a little long, but you'll see why that's important later)
Hawt Factor #2 - Nick is the only one who calls Belle by her real name and makes it sound sexy. Belle's real name/title is Lady Tinkerelle Poppy Winkworth-Jones, sixth Earl of Edenhall. And let me tell you I'd change my name to Tinkerbelle if I had a guy who when he said it, it would roll off of the tongue, the way it does in my head when Nick says it.
Hawt Factor #3 - Nick will do anything and I mean ANYTHING to save Belle from danger. Which is why he goes guns blazing, with help, to save Belle's life from a rebel leader in Africa.
Hawt Factor # 4 - Nick speaks little Greek sayings to Belle that are terms of endearment and shows his love for her.
Hawt Factor #5 - Dude is tall, dark, sexy and BUILT!!! O.M.G. the way Nick's body is described....I'm pretty sure I had drool coming out of my mouth...especially when the scenes got pretty steamy!!!!
Anyways back to my review. I'm going to try to not give too much away....I want to give you a little to read or at least it being a surprise when you read it. The book starts out with Belle and a few others walking as prisoners, to meet up with the rebel leader, Charles Mwana in Africa. Once they finally arrive at his camp Belle is separated from the rest of the group and is given her own quarters. She also quickly learns that Mwana doesn't really care if he receives the ransom money or not for Belle, because he is attracted to Belle. Mwana constantly tells Belle different things such as, "Don't underestimate the power of your charms, Belle, or the time and effort it's taken to bring you here." He also wants to come to some type of an arrangement with her. Belle starts to get to Mwana and he warms up to her. For her this is all survival and she says anything and everything to make sure to stay on his good side. During a game of chess Mwana shares a lot of details about his future plans for Africa, what his part will be and how he wants Belle there with him.
Next, we get to read how upset Nick is because Belle has been missing for five days. He takes his cousin, Alex, a fellow marine and a group of men he hired and goes in search of Belle, guns blazing. After they find the camp and after some gun fire, Nick finds his estranged wife and next to her ear says, "Hello, Tinkerbelle" and carries her away from the horrors she recently went through in Africa. The biggest thing about Nick is that he is a HUGE control freak. And when I say control freak that is putting it mildly. Instead of taking her back to London, where her current apartment is (since leaving her husband 6 months ago) he takes her to his island Althea.
Belle had nightmares at first about her whole experience in Africa and when she awoke, Nick would be right there with strong and protective arms around her. He would whisper in her ear sweet nothings and Greek endearments. It's super sweet....I want a Greek man who whispers Greek romantic things to me; such as glikia mou which means my sweetheart.  The first few days between these two are UGLY!!!! Belle wants to leave the island and Nick wants her to stay. We finally find out why Belle left Nick 6 months ago and we also find out that Nick isn't willing to let her go, no matter what. They got married and that's the end of it. But Nick also makes a proposition for Belle. Nick wants a truce for the next seven days and then they have their "talk" about their marriage and what each of them wants. Or they can have wild, no holds-barred sex.
So of course which option is going to be the one taken? The wild, no holds-barred sex of course. And O.M.G. they have some pretty steamy scenes. My favorite is when Nick goes for a swim in the ocean and she goes for a swim in the pool and when she gets out she goes to shower off a little and Nick comes in and ahhh......he just loses it!!!
Belle's biggest argument with Nick is that she feels that he doesn't truly care about her, that he doesnnt love her. He's never said I love you, she doesn't know much of anything about his past or his family, and she feels he married her under false pretenses. More than anything in the world Belle wants children and Nick has a different opinion about children. Furthermore, we also learn that Nick tried to change a lot about Belle when they got married; her job, spending time with family and friends and other little things that add up to big things.
So while Belle and Nick work on patching up their marriage and surviving on the island without killing each other, Mwana has made it known that he plans on getting what is his back and with that he will get Belle back. Well of course that angers Nick and we see how things play out when Belle's life is threatened right before his eyes.
The world that Maya creates pulls the reader in right from the beginning and keeps them guessing till the end what is going to happen. There are so many times that I want to smack Belle across her face because again I feel the need to yell at women for not listening to that little voice in the back of their head. Or the one coming from deep in their gut. When little voices or gut feelings come over you, and you're a woman, LISTEN TO THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With that said the questions that need to be answered are; can Nick ever truly love Belle? Not using Greek endearments, but true love? Does Belle still love Nick?  And if she does can she stay with him knowing he doesn't want children and is a super control freak? What is going to happen if Mwana gets her? OMG what will Nick do? (Although the thought of that type of scene would be interesting). What if they can't catch Mwana? Soooooooo many questions that need to be answered and by the time you get to the end everything is put into place and leaves the reader content and wanting more. I want to know what will happen in the next chapter of Belle's life. So...maybe sometime down the road a squeal? Or a little novella? Just over here wishing for more of these characters because I fell in love with them. Overall, this was a great read and I highly recommend this book to others....so go pick one up and get lost in Nick and Belle's characters.
