“Do you want to get changed and I’ll set dinner out?” Caden asked.

“Yeah,” Makenna said. “Sounds great.” The kitchen, dining area, and living room were one big room, with her bedroom door toward the far end. She paused there and looked back. Caden moved around her little kitchen, comfortably and familiarly, and he just looked so freaking good there. In her space. Well, their space now. 

He still had his townhouse in Fairlington, but he rarely slept there anymore. And it was so bare bones in furnishings that he preferred they not sleep there because he feared she’d be uncomfortable. A part of her wasn’t sure why he even kept it at this point.

“What?” he asked, giving her a skeptical look.

She grinned and leaned against the door jamb. “I rode our elevator today.”

He shook his head. “Anything interesting happen?”

“Oh, I got trapped with a smoking hot stranger and made out with him in the dark. The usual,” she said.

He smirked. “That never happens.”

Makenna threw her head back and laughed. Still smiling, she changed into jeans and a pink camisole with a low back, and then she threw a warm, chunky caramel-colored cardigan over that.

She found Caden sitting at the set table, containers of food overflowing with several types of noodles. It smelled amazing—savory and spicy and like she could eat everything she saw.

For a moment, the look on his face made her think he was upset about something, but then he saw her and his expression transformed into a sexy smirk. “Smoking hot, huh?”

Laughing, she took the seat next to him. “You fishing for compliments, Grayson? I already said you were freaking gorgeous.”

“Yeah, but that’s not the same as smoking hot.” He arched a brow, and damn if his playfully smug, expectant expression wasn’t hot as hell with his brow piercing and the widow’s peak of his dark hair.

She picked up her fork. “Okay, then how about this? You are so freaking gorgeous and so smoking hot that you make my heart race and my mouth water and my panties melt. Every time I see you. How’s that for a compliment?”

Caden’s smile was slow coming but so damn sexy. “I like tattoo night.”

She laughed and shook her head. “So do I.”

Remember the good ole days when the adage “No pain—no gain” was popular? I was raised with that school of thought. I learned it in my years of PT practice, in my figure skating and martial arts life, and in the school of hard knocks. I was a pain junky! As a Marine friend used to say, “Pain is good, extreme pain is extremely good.” Well, now I’m here to tell you that it’s a load of crap! This kind of thinking is responsible for more injuries, failed diets, and aversion to exercise than any of the million excuses we can come up with not to take care of ourselves.

In all fairness, living a healthy lifestyle is no walk in the park (pardon the pun), but it doesn’t have to be punishing either. Deprivation, lack of true motivation, and physical discomfort are recipes for avoidance. If you believe you have to “hurt” or feel pain to benefit from exercise, I guarantee you won’t be looking forward to it. Yes, exercise should be hard work and you’ll need to exert yourself to see changes in weight or fitness level, but if, after an exercise routine, you can’t climb stairs, get up off the toilet seat, or brush your teeth without your muscles squealing the next day, you’ve clearly done too much. If you experience sharp shooting pains, numbness or tingling, or become so winded you can’t hold a conversation though your workout, you need to back off and modify your program. Get rid of that “all or none” thinking and adopt a new message.

“Some is better than none. More is not better.”

Understanding the difference between “pain” and “muscle burn” is essential for developing and maintaining a safe, effective exercise routine. First off, you need to work within a pain-free range of motion. Don’t push past pain. Find the edge of what’s enough and what’s too much and stay on the “just enough” side. This is your “edge.” It’s the place where you feel your muscles working, but the sensation you feel is tolerable, and you can perform the exercise without holding your breath or gritting your teeth. Knowing where your “edge” is will help you decide where your weaknesses lie and what types of exercise are right for you.

For instance, I know that running, swimming, and biking are not for me. Not that I’m not good at any of those things or that they aren’t good for me in theory, but running has repeatedly led to joint problems for me in the past, swimming requires more repetitive rotation than my unstable spine enjoys, and biking puts me in too much forward flexion, further tightening my hip flexors, hamstrings, and cervical extensors—areas of my body which are already overly tight. I’ve found that variety—also known as Cross Training—is the key for me. I rotate through various routines for upper and lower body resistive training, focus on core stabilization exercises, avoid repetitive or one sided sports (like tennis, bowling, and golf), and add in recreational activities that I find enjoyable and challenging, such as kayaking, hiking, or roller blading. NOTE: The trick is to find activities you’ll enjoy, stick with, and are willing to sweat through for 30 minutes five times per week.

“Who the f*ck are you?” I whipped my head up as I was shoving the camera back in my purse, and saw a strange man standing by a rehabbed old Camaro, smoking a cigarette. “Uh … a friend of Clarice’s. I was just using the bathroom,” I managed, not sure who the guy was, or what my next move should be. “Yeah?” he asked, throwing his cigarette to the ground and taking a step toward me. “You need a camera to do that?” Shit. Before he could make another move, I secured my bag on my shoulder, turned and took off like a shot. I hit Main Street, cursing myself for wearing the damn boots when the sound of a motorcycle pulling up along side of me caused me to turn my head. My first thought was, where the hell did the bike come from? Then I realized it wasn’t the slimy guy from behind the salon. The bike came to a stop and the most dangerously beautiful man I’d ever seen rumbled, “Get your sweet ass on the bike.” Huh? I stood there for a moment, wondering what in the hell was happening, if I should get on this strange man’s bike, and if I was offended or flattered by his sweet ass comment. “Darlin’,” he prodded. I turned my head to look behind me, and saw the slimy guy standing at the side of Clarice’s, and made a quick decision to accept … his offer of a ride, and the compliment. So, I swung my leg up and over the bike, settled my front to his back, and curled my arms around the thick bulk of his muscled body. Tingling head to toe from the adrenaline, and the close contact with a seriously hot man, I couldn’t stop my lips from spreading into a grin as we took off down Main Street.

Barreling out of her apartment in black leggings and a white tank that accentuates those perfect breasts I’m thinking this run, may be the death of me. I already want to trail my hands along the smooth curves of her hips and take those tight black pants right off her body. My breath gets shallow as I near her, my body reacting to what she does to me. She seems tense, worried about something as I approach. Her top lip is securely hidden under her straight white bottom teeth and she’s eyeing me as I walk toward her. “Loosen up, Addison. I’m not going to bite.” Running my hand along her ponytail, I give it a slight tug before heading down the stairs, assuming she’ll follow. “Unless of course you ask me to.” I’m at the bottom of the staircase stretching, and she’s still waiting up top. When she finally gets a handle on herself, she lies flat on her back and stares up at the sky, her eyes suddenly far away, looking like they’re searching for answers to some unasked question. “My ex was a morning person too. I loved it. It’s quiet outside, and still dark in the bedroom. It’s like a secret time where you feel like you’re the only two people on the planet awake and you’re sharing a piece of yourself with each other. A silent communication that only the two of you can understand.” Unexpected sadness washes over me listening to Addison long for a situation that clearly doesn’t exist in her life anymore. Whoever her ex is must be a real asshole.  She deserves better than an asshole. She deserves me.

Okay so this book is really not at all what I expected. On the one hand you have Addison who has had a pretty crappy life up to this point. Mom left when she was a baby, her boyfriend/fiancé left right after he proposed to her to....find himself and then her father fell ill and she had to take care of him up to his death. Ohhh and he has a massive amount of debt that she has to pay off. Then one night the "man of her dreams" come back into her life and they have a great night together...until she finds out he's married. On the flip side of that we have Damian. Damian is a very interesting character. He has a hidden past and he's trying to get back on track with his life.

So one day Addison and Damian run into each other and BAM that's all it takes. The attraction and chemistry is there, the only problem, Addison has sworn off men and Damian looks anything but the good guy. It turns out these two are neighbors and they begin to develop a routine and a decent friendship. They obviously have feelings for each other, but until Addison can move on past her stupid ex, Damian won't make any kind of move. 

One things leads to another and eventually these two have a wild drunken night of mischief together. And things go side-ways from there. Damian can't be completely honest with Addison about his past and the accident and who Emily is. Addison can't seem to keep her ex out of her apartment and to quit calling her and so on. 

The biggest twist for me was learning about the woman in the car accident with Damian. My biggest issue with this book is I feel like a few things were left undone. What happens with the ex in t his entire book  kind of angers me. He is ALWAYS there. Calling, texting, showing up at her home, her work. He's persistent about wanting her back, divorcing his wife. All these things and when the time comes...I feel like this was kind of a let down and it doesn't properly get addressed. 

My other thing that I'm not sure how I completely feel about it is, I got to point in the book where things were falling into place and I'm like hey, there's not too much left of this book. However, that wasn't the case I think I was just a little over half way through the book and I kept thinking...what the heck is left to truly address. Why are there so many pages left. But, once you get to those parts and finish the book you are left feeling, "Yeah I can see why it was put in, it didn't have to be, but it give a little more depth to the book." However, I also hate the ending of the epilogue, I feel like it was kinda rushed and it could have had a few more sentences or something to really tie up the book. 

Overall, I really did enjoy this book and the banter and ups and downs of Addison and Damian and Damian's abs. There are some really steamy scenes as well as some sweaty scenes. The coffee mugs are great and I want to know where I can get me some. I wish that some things had a little more substance, but overall, I thought it was a really good book and I would definitely recommend this one to readers.

“My friend Ally showed me a video she saw on Facebook," Shannon began. "It’s this clip of a girl who grinds on her boyfriend in public while his hand is under her skirt, and they don’t even try to hide that he’s fingering her and getting her off.”

“I like getting you off,” Brent said with a naughty glint in his brown eyes.

“You cannot resist segueing back to dirty talk when I’m telling you a story.”

“I’m so sorry,” he said, placing his palms together. “The story was about a guy making a girl come. Forgive me for thinking about making you come. It’s only my favorite thing in the entire world to do.”

She shot him a tell me more look.

“It’s a hobby I once practiced a few times a day,” he added. “One I’m very interested in taking up again.”

“You have me alone. Now, start talking,” I said in a stony voice. Madeline reached into her blue blazer and handed me a five-by-seven manila envelope. “Open it.” I flipped it over, lifted the silver tab, and pulled out the stack of papers. My blood turned to ice when I took in the first photograph. It was of Paige and me on Hank’s property the night we’d scoped out his place. The image was dark and a tad pixelated. She and I were both holding flashlights and walking between two barns. My gut coiled, but I kept my expression unreadable. “So what? We trespassed on private property.” “There happens to be a reporter—Lexie West at The Murfreesboro Times—who is very interested in more details on my husband’s mysterious death. It doesn’t look good with Paige and you on my property weeks before my husband was murdered. She’ll run anything I tell her, Colton. You forget who runs this town.” I was not threatened by her, so I told her, “Then, I’ll be sure to show her the images I have of my horse sperm in the refrigerator in your stables and the paperwork confirming the fire on my property was arson, committed by your husband.” “Keep flipping,” she hissed. The second picture was of Kyle, Jason, Damon, Blake, and me on the night when we’d gone to Hank’s estate and forced him to return what was rightfully mine.
